The Vogue Singapore September NFT collection

‘Triumphant Awakening’

By Chad Knight and Baëlf Design

‘The RenaiXance Rising’

By The Fabricant and Shavonne Wong

This September, all 27 editions of Vogue unite under the global theme of ‘New Beginnings’ as a hopeful look towards a new dawn with the sunrise as a leitmotif. For Vogue Singapore, to consider new beginnings is to explore the intersection of fashion and technology and, in particular, the rise of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as a new marketplace for designers and creators.

Celebrating the protagonists driving the new creative renaissance born out of NFTs, Vogue Singapore launches two digital-only cover NFTs along with 11 fashion, beauty and design NFTs that are exclusively available for purchase on the Binance NFT Premium Marketplace in partnership with Brytehall.

Winter Blossoms

By Dain Yoon

Edition: 1 of 10

Price per edition: 0.4 ETH

Nothing embodies new beginnings more than the fresh, tender blooms of spring. Yet “new beginnings are not always happy or bright”, says Yoon, who wanted to present a more world-weary take using a traditional Asian painting style that echoed scenes found in fairy tales and pop-up books. “I painted a snowy mountain in the background to explore the other side of a new beginning; more metaphysical or introspective and dark.”

Peacock

By Dain Yoon

Edition: 1 of 5

Price per edition: 0.8 ETH

The symbolism of peacocks throughout Southeast Asian culture speak of beauty, dignity and virtues such as kindness, patience and wisdom—all of which form the inner bedrock for every new beginning. “Peacocks have splendid patterns portraying strong imagery. I did a close-up painting of my eye and face as if the peacock would be resting on my face,” shares Yoon. “I also displayed the shape of human eyes in the pattern of the peacock’s feathers.”

Sunrise

By Dain Yoon

Edition: 1 of 20

Price per edition: 0.2 ETH

“As day breaks, we’re reminded that “there are lots of new beginnings within Mother Nature. One of them is the sunrise. The sun brings light, life and a sense of the unlimited passage of time,” says Dain Yoon, who incorporated a silhouette into her vivid sunrise by painting herself in camouflage.

Penetrating Sunlight

By Dain Yoon

Edition: 1 of 150

Price per edition: 0.01 ETH

“‘The light at the end of the tunnel’ has always been a metaphor for new beginnings,” shares Yoon, who casts an introspective mood between the light and dark of our inner and outer worlds.

Deep-rooted

By Dain Yoon

Edition: 1 of 20

Price per edition: 0.2 ETH

“A tree grows from a single root that divides itself into a tangle of branches. I believe that this idea also applies to human relationships,” says Yoon, captured here with actor Sang Yi Lee. It’s this deep level of trust that strengthens the bonds in any relationship, “just like a beautiful tree, as if one person could help the other to blossom, grow stronger, more beautiful.”

The Secrets of the Heart

By Dain Yoon

Editions: 1 of 50

Price per edition: 0.06 ETH

“Love has an infinite amount of new beginnings. Falling in love is always a new beginning. Every time it happens, we discover a new person inside of us,” shares Yoon.

Living Vase 01

By Lanzavecchia + Wai

Edition: 1 of 1

Price per edition: 10 ETH

An impossible living artefact, a vase made from alien flowers, waiting to be discovered in an otherworldly dune landscape.

The flowers bud from nothingness, synchronised to its sun’s journey across the sky, reaching full bloom at high noon. 784 metallic pink flowers then scatter their 4704 petals into the digital wind, a Memento Mori, a riotous celebration of their brief existence, as dusk succumbs to night.

With the flowers’ disintegration, the vase ceases to exist and will only regenerate when the sun rises again over the desert landscape.

This cycle then repeats itself, ad infinitum, an analogue of Nature’s ability to be reborn time and again.
